Refresh my heart, Lord,

it longs for quenching drink.

Refresh my heart, Lord,

to its pain, be the healing ink.

Secure my soul, Lord,

it needs Your everlasting brand.

Secure my soul, Lord,

seal all holes with Your hands.

Give only what I need, Lord,

I desire the wants of the world.

Give only what I need, Lord,

allow clinching hands to unfurl.

Raise my face to You, Lord,

it desires to see Your smile.

Raise my face to You, Lord,

accompany me for awhile.

Love me always, Lord,

no matter what I might do.

Love me always, Lord,

remind me I only need please you.

Protect this sinner, Lord,

she will always stumble and fall.

Protect this sinner, Lord,

help her to crumble dividing walls.

Here I am, child,

I will never leave your side.

Here I am, child,

there is always reason to smile.

Inspiration comes in many forms; today it happens to be from my normal morning Bible readings and a mistake.  As I read my Jesus Calling passage for today, it was one of those times when you feel the words appearing as if divinely dictated at that moment. Come to find out it was from yesterday; I suppose I was to hear it today.

Issac the Syrian, a monk near Mosul in the 7th century, wrote in Ascetical Discourses

"The air breathed through the thoughts within him is the Holy Spirit, the Comforter." He continues, "Such a one continually enjoys the contemplation of his soul, marveling at the beauty he sees there, shining a hundred times more powerfully than the brightness of the sun."

This quote reminds me even an insignificant mistake when allowed to touch, at times even change, a heart does, in fact, shine more powerfully on a soul than the brightness of the sun if we allow ourselves to marvel at the beauty of it. A gentle reminder from the Lord that mistakes are only unseasoned learning opportunities awaiting a seasoned heart.

Bible Readings for the day:

the Letter from St. Paul to Philemon 1: 7-20
