Lord, answer me in my time of need.
Have I sinned, Yes;
have I forgotten, Yes;
Lord, open the ears of Heaven, I plead.
Lord answer me in my time of need;
please, guide my feet to Your way of peace.
I seek to know truth; experience goodness;
allow my cup to overflow with Your fullness.
I have sinned against the one I love;
mere humanness would dictate painful shove.
I feel withdrawn from Your spiritual nature,
yet I know You'll return, my forgiving savior.
Lord, answer me in my time of need.
Have I sinned, Yes;
have I forgotten, Yes;
Lord, open the ears of Heaven, I plead.
I have forgotten the promise of the One I love,
a whisper in rough winds quickly swept above.
Imperfect ears linger on societal demand;
send the Spirit to remind me of Your fruitful plan.
Lord, open the ears of Heaven, I plead;
I want to live by Your faithful lead.
Help me to linger in the depths of mercy;
fill me quickly, Lord, for I am thirsty.
Lord, I hear You in my time of need.
Have I sinned, Yes;
Have I forgotten, Yes;
Lord, the ears of Heaven open even in my plea.
Reflection:
Take note of the first and last stanza. What has changed? Our ability to hear His steady voice: "I am always with you - in all of your sinfulness - I am there - even when you forget - I am there. My dearest child, the ears of Heaven remain faithfully open to your plea. Speak to Me,
I am here."
