No, it takes time’s
Does a caterpillar fly
in one single night?
Time’s hand again
will determine its flight.
An imagination clings
to some sudden conversion,
but our eternal horologist
assures one's emergence.
Without one even knowing,
development clings to shape,
and when He deems ready,
new wings, "Now Fly,"
from blessed Lord does escape.
Before you begin your day:
Transformation is defined as (noun)
1. the act or process of transforming.
2. the state of being transformed.
3. change in form, appearance, nature, or character.
Do any of these definitions appear to need only a moment of time?
I remember when my girls were young, we sent off for some caterpillars. We were going to observe their metamorphosis. With great excitement, we received the tiny, squiggly creatures. Placing them in a butterfly netted habitat, we waited. Not long after they arrived, they began to form their cocoon. For days, the girls would watch.
Over the passing days, the watchful hours became random observations. Their inevitable sighs accompanied their quick skipping back into play. The visits to the habitat became less and less, then ceased. Even I forgot to check on them.
A few weeks later, as I was cleaning, I passed the enclosure. I found several dead moths sprinkled on the floor. There were two or three still clinging to the netting along the sides. I ran to get the girls, and we released them a bit saddened by our negligence.
Do you ever feel like God put you where you are, and after a few days, weeks, even years forgot to check on you? Or is it God placed inside the habitat, and it is you that forgot to keep a watchful eye for signs of His presence?
Our lives become so busied by those to-do's; we often forget to be watchful. We pray with some request. Days pass with no sign of immediate, dramatic answer. So, we neglect to be vigilant to the distant, unimpressive nudges. Or we do receive a response in prayer but fail to recognize His hand cradling the fragments. All of these desires, changes, questions, transformations - take time. God's time.
Horology is the art or science of making timepieces or of measuring time. A horologist is an expert in this field. (dictionary.com)
Does it comfort you that God is an expert in measuring your time? Does it soothe you to think that in His loving eyes, you are an integral piece of art by which He quantifies a day? A life?
You are His master timepiece. Every second of every day, something is happening in your life. Most times, this is not earth-shattering. But, never forget, in His eyes, upon His measure, it is the seconds that are of the highest significance. They are intricate pieces of the hours He threads together to transform your day. Your weeks. Your months. Your years. Your life. Be watchful.
During your day:
He has made everything beautiful in its time.
He has set eternity in the human heart;
no one can fathom what God has done from beginning to end.
(Ecclesiastes 3: 11)
2 Corinthians 3: 18; Romans 12: 2; Philippians 1: 6
Throughout your day:
INHALE: I will be watchful every second.
EXHALE: Transform my minutes into hours.
(repeat as many times as needed)
Before you end your day:
Truth is, You know what tomorrow brings
There's not a day ahead You have not seen
So let all things be my life and breath
I want what You want Lord and nothing less
When You don't move the mountains
I'm needing You to move
When You don't part the waters
I wish I could walk through
When You don't give the answers
As I cry out to You
I will trust, I will trust, I will trust in You
I will trust in You
("Trust In You" by Lauren Daigle)
Goodnight; sleep well; know you are blessed.
