Day 23: The Bridge

There stands a bridge

do I want to venture?

Hold fast to a life where

suffering centers.

Years ago, I saw this man

appear on that bridge,

today, I decide, my foot

to a plank be stitched.

He speasks to me gently

these some years later,

“Would you walk with Me;

might I find your favor?”

I step lightly upon

the splintered wood;

His hand reaches to mine

as firmly He stood.

As I walk beside Him

my bridge transforms road,

I trust the path we travel,

only to Him is known.

I know I will stumble

as forward We go,

but He is always there

The Way to bestow.

Before you begin your day:

We have arrived. During these past twenty some days, we've been traveling to get here.

At the beginning of our journey, we prepared ourselves with the mark of ashes. We then readied our spirits for pilgrimage by looking at what it means to pray, offer, and fast. Take a look at the beginning of the bridge; there are two handrails. When we set out, we leaned on these for stability. Sliding our hands along the worn wood, we encountered obstacles. Thought, temptation, burden, and emotion began to transform. Our grip lessened.

Look further down the bridge, what do you see? One handrail? This release is where we began to let go, offering one hand to God. He asked us to hand over our time, words, and shape. He whispered convert your temptation into prayer, your prayer into conversation. And, like a loving parent, reminded us this takes practice.

Can you see the end of the bridge? Does it appear to float away? This surrender is where we extended all support to him. He enveloped our hands inside His. He spoke to us of His desires for us: fruitfulness, playfulness, and faithfulness. He reassured us He would climb every wall and be the foundation of every road as we journey forward.

Now, we arrive. He asks, "Are you ready?"

For What?

"Come, take a walk with Me."

Where are we going?

"That is up to you, but I AM The Way."

During your day:

He restores my soul.

He guides me along right paths*

for the sake of his name.

(Psalm 23: 3)

John 14: 4-6; John 12: 26; Psalm 37: 5; Proverbs 4: 26

Throughout your day:

INHALE: Walk beside me.

EXHALE: Show me The Way.

(repeat as many times as needed)

Before you end your day:

“Would you walk with Me?”

I step lightly upon the splintered wood;

His hand reaches to mine as firmly He stood.

As I walk beside Him, the bridge transforms road,

I trust the path we travel, for only to Him is known.

I know I will stumble as forward We go,

but He is always there,

The Way to bestow.

Amen.

Goodnight; sleep well; know you are blessed.
